We are all finally back from Djangofest! After 4 days of roaming around Langley and joining people for jams I felt like it was almost going to keep on going forever and I probably would have liked it that way if it did.
I had a ton of fun, and luckily the weather turned out to be suprisingly comfortable until late Sunday afternoon when it got a bit windy.
The Djangofest experience
Djangofest setlist for 2002
I managed to record all of the setlists to the shows at Djangofest. Here they are, and I might expand on these details later when I get some time. Of course, I may have made a few mistakes in the lists, and in some cases I couldn’t figure out the title of the tune that they played. Email me with corrections, if you don’t agree with something.

Lache Cercel at Djangofest
After seeing Lache Cercel play the violin in a performance on Sunday night at Djangofest, after an entire weekend of American influenced gypsy jazz, I realized how far away everyone is from the original Sinti and Romanian sounds that form some of the roots of this music. I think Bluegrass music has a strong influence on this form of music in the U.S. I wish more violin players in the American gypsy scene had eastern european flavor. If I was a violin player, I would rush out and buy the following video immediately.
HOW TO PLAY ROMANIAN VIOLIN, VOL. 2 by Miamon Miller and Lache Cercel. Twelve pieces expand the repertoire of the first volume. Techniques and stylistic nuances with regional variations of accordion, guitar and violin accompaniment.
