Today I received the latest Robin Nolan and Paul Meader lesson book, number 6. It is full of some of my favorites. I sat down for two hours after getting it and learned every song. Of course, I don’t have them memorized yet, but I will work on it later.
The Nolan Trio also just announced a second edition of book 2, probably because of copyright issues. It sounds like they might have put the Actual Rhythm Changes song in there instead of the Rythm Changes “lesson” that they have in volume 1. I think that would be a huge improvement. I wonder if these new tunes will show up in the gig book along with the RNT version of the head. Does anyone know the answer to that one?
It will be nice to see a RNT simplified version of “I love you” because I don’t think that tune is as recognizable as some others and a RNT version might bring some continuity for that song among players. Orientle Shuffle can be god awful slow, and easy to pick out on my own, so i wouldn’t have chose that one for the book. The real stars here are Dinette and Rose Room, which are absolutely necessary for jams!
