Just in time for the holiday gift-giving season, a limited edition Django Reinhardt print has just been made available by Wayne Nakamura of HyperHip Media, the man behind Denis Chang’s popular series of instructional DVDs. The edition is limited to five hundred prints, each 17″ by 22″, and printed, proofed, signed and numbered by Toronto artist Colleen Clancey.

The first thing one notices about the print is its sheer vibrancy: the acid-free, 100% cotton paper creates a lush ground for Clancey’s vibrant inks: rich, velvety blacks and purples tempered by beige and creams, and shot through by an electric red. (The archival inks are lightfast for over 100 years, says the HyperHip website, which also provides a large, detailed look at the artwork here.) Like Django himself, pictured here with his iconic “petite bouche” Selmer guitar, the poster isn’t subtle, but it’s arresting, and effective.

Prints are shipped unframed, but well protected by several layers of packaging; Django fans in North America (or their gift-giving spouses) can also have the print framed before shipping for an added fee. At $125 USD, the print isn’t inexpensive but remains well within the reach of the average Django fan.  Depending on the response to the piece, Nakamura hopes to expand the idea to a series commemorating the biggest names in the style: some of the musicians mentioned include “Grappelli, Baro, Matelot, Jo Privat, [and] Oscar Aleman.”

It is a great pleasure to announce that the long awaited new documentary film “Jon and Jimmy” is now ready for TV, film festivals, and DVD.

This is the amazing story about the extraordinary relationship beween the two talented jazz guitar players: Jimmy Rosenberg and Jon Larsen. They were brothers, for 12 years they toured and played together, until a series of things happened: drugs, police, arrestations, overdoses, threats, and jail.  Only one thing could save their brotherhood: their passion for music!
